    This is my wife's G. G. Grandfather born 1873 I have read that the first letter is a real signature, the second is not a real one.

      The first letter is a real signature.

      Do you have the biniculars or telescope that was sent in to the Navy? Usually they were tagged and then sent back to the original owner post war.

      The "Eyes for the Navy" program is pretty interesting. The US Navy found itself short of vision enhancement equipment at the start of WW1 and solicited the public for donations. If the item were found servicable and useable, the donor would get a $1 rental check and the return of the item after the War.

      I have a set that includes the binoculars (with tag), FDR Letter, Document, and even the original uncashed check!
