This Trunk was given to me. My husband boss was restoring his house and was going to throw it away. all I can see from it is the alligator skin and the removalbe tray inside and picture of a woman .Please take a look at the pics attached and tell me what you think about what type and a round about age and how to clean it.Thank You. ...Having fun learning about this piece of furniture. The pateint date says "pat 972 july".
Nice dome top trunk. I an guessing that the alligator pattern is actually tin and not real alligator skin. The date is the patent date for the lock but the trunk is probably made around the 1900's judging by the type of hardware on it -- particularly the slat clamps that look like stamped tin. (bit hard to tell from the picture). Clean it up with some soap and water with a clean rag -- not too wet. Nice piece -- thanks for the post.
Awesome i have a similar one, but it looks like yours is in great condition especially if it still has its tray and all its pictures (lithographs). Here is a link to a website that sold one exactly like yours.
