Just acquired 3 of these recently. They were brought over from Hamburg, Germany by the previous owner who purchased them at a flea market there several years ago. All ironwork is hand forged only "modern" item I can find are 2 very old screws (NOT phillips), on the footrests.

I was told they came from an old castle in Germany, and orginally thought they were German-style chairs until I started doing some research. I am now assuming - pretty much - that they are antique/vintage Chinese Royal Folding Chairs. Not sure - need help on that.

    They are truly beautiful chairs.

Can ANYONE tell me ANYTHING about the chairs including possible value. I can't seem to get any answers anywhere.

    Thanks!

I have two similar chairs without the iron on them. They are called horseshoe back chairs. Mine are made out of elm, with pegs holding the various parts together and date back to the Ming dynasty so probably at least 150 years old. (it was a very long dynasty) I've seen chairs like mine online priced anywhere from $100 apiece to $1200.
