Hello, Im trying to figure something about this stool. I have owned it for about 40 years an elderly Tongan man in the neighborhood gave it to me and back then he said it was very old.As you see it has 3 legs screwed in with twine.The seat is leather and is lined with what looks like handmade tacks and has 3 hand carved handles.Two are arm rest and the other is a hinged back rest that folds down for maybe easy travel .the hinge also looks handmade. Ive had many people look at it and have told me its a Milking Stool, to a ships stool from a pirate ship Please Someone HELP Me.the last person that looked at it said out of all my antiques Mostly furniture Alot. He said it was the oldest thing in my collection and most valueable I would never sell it but would love to know its history thank you. Galdrinz@hotmail.com
I just commented on another, but different style. I just saw one that looked just like this, but did not catch the age or more details. I think it is a birthing chair. The back rest is swayed out and not straight up like a sitting chair would be. Handles for you know. Oh! Came in a variety of shapes, but this looks like the others I've seen. I'll keep track. K-

Reminds me very much of a chair i own and will list in Show And Tell
i think they Seem to have had various versions of This Type of Chair around the world But i dont thnk the chair i have was a Birthing Chair Certainly not here in Ireland Here the Chair would have been used around the house Most likely near the Fire on A Cold Winters Night They were made by local Craftsmen and featured various Designs mine has a Shamrock Design on the hand Rests and Back which you can have a look in Show and Tell. i love your Version Though
