This rocker belonged to my great grandmother, then my grandmother, then my mother and then I inherited it. I have been told it is a Windsor Dolphin Head. It has 17 spindles across the back & sides plus 2 larger spindles under the arms, all pegs into round sockets. Legs are also pegs into sockets. At the end of each arm is a carved Dolphin Head. No markings under the seat. I estimate it is about 100 yrs old. I cannot find information on this rocker anywhere. I have searched for months.
Can anyone help me identify this rocker?

Many old Windsor "rockers" were not rockers to begin with. Can you tell if yours was a sawed off chair made into a rocker? I love how the arms and the back are worn perfectly. You can tell that people have been sitting in this chair for a long time. I have a chair that is slightly similar to yours. It is like a cross between a "bucket" chair with the looped back and arms, and a traditional windsor. Is the seat all one piece? Do you have any closeups of the back or bottom?

I have the same rocking chair. I purchased it at a antique sale about 30 years ago and am trying to find out more about it.
Yes, I did find out some information on my grandmothers rocker. I contacted an antique expert & he confirmed it was manufactured around 1890. Without a name under the seat he could not identify the manufacturer. He said it is of the Windsor style but not a true Windsor and it has a bit of a Hunzinger look but not a Hunzinger. Its a combination of the two styles and said lets just call it a Colonial Revival with Dolphin Head arms. My ancesters purchased the rocker origionally in Ohio around 1890 and I am the 4th generation to have it. It is made of birch & then stained maghonany. All pegs & sockets & put together with hot hide glue. It has worn beautifully over the years, now showing a lovely soft patina on the arms & back. I guess this is as much as we will ever know about the rocker since it was made about 123 years ago. I do know everytime I look at it I see my grandmother sitting in it not to mention 65 years ago I rocked my baby dolls in it also.
I I have the identical rocker. It was purchased in 1945 for my mother to rock me as a s a new born. It was purchased in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
