Hello fellow waltham watch collectors, I am new to your sight, after doing some research I stumbled on the collectors weekly web page and discovered some research and testimonials about the wiltham pocket watches along with some advid collectors. This inspired me to write & show one of my peices in my small collection that has come into my possesion in the last few years. I dont pretend to be that knowledgable in the erea of pocket watches nor know the monitary value if any. I was hoping to get better aquainted in this erea but dont know exactly what steps to take & was hoping someone could help steer me in the right direction. would it be in my best interest to have them looked at by a specialist in the field & have them appraised?
The one illistrated in the pics above has the name wiltham along with a serial#8232098 on the inside of the lid, it is gold in color and in very great condition too, I think it is a small ladies pocket watch but I am not sure even if they made lays pocket watches. I would love to hear from someone who could help me identify what it is exactly that I have any knoweledge would help. I have 3 watches in total. I also have a very old watch thats a elgin (sterling) but have no knoweledge of the peices I come to posses.

I think you have a Waltham there... Open the back and give us the serial number from the movement itself...Not the case...

I'd be careful about sharing info with this Fishwacker guy... He seems to have an agenda that goes beyond just helping other collectors. Check out his comments. He seems to be fishing for deals and who knows whatever else. I've reported him to the admin... We'll see what happens...

toolate I am having dificulties trying to get the watch open, I do not want to tamper to much with it for fear of breaking it, do you have any sugestions on how to get the watch open to retrieve the serial # as sugested????
Apparently I can't try to help another user without being flagged by toolate. Thanks for your hasty inaccurate conclusions to my intentions. I was going to use the waltham database to find the size, exact manf date, number produced in the specific run, and was asking for the hallmark to identify if they have a solid gold case which will potentially make this a very valuable piece. But again, apparently I'm not worthy and am up to no good. The information I could have offered this person was far superior to the tidbit you managed to give them, thanks for giving me a bad first impression of this site.
oh & did i forget to mention that I have two other wiltham watches, I will post them soon along with pics....I starting to like this collection very much but I want to educate myself very thourghly who knows Maybe Ill become a collector....wink wink ...lol keep in touch

No problem, nothing to do with you. If there is a marking on the inside of the first lid (which covers the dial) that says something like guranteed 15, 20, or 25 years, or says something like JBOSS with two hanging scales, you have a gold filled case and the value of the watch is relatively modest (under $125). If the markings instead say 14k us assay, 18k us assay, .585, 14k, anything along those lines, you have a solid gold case and the value will reflect the gold content+the value of the movement, which could be $250 for a size 0 watch or $2500 for a size 18
P.S- Unless the watch is damaged in some way, pressing the top of the winding crown down generally pops the covers. If not, fitting your fingernail where the case meets for some further persuasion should do the trick. If not I'd take it to a local jeweler with tools that will open it very quickly for you with no risk of damage.
I have decided it would be in my best interest to take it to my local jeweler so as to not do any damage to the watch, I just cant seem to get the inner cover off to investigate the guts of the watch for further info, all the wiser to let a jeweler look at it for me ty for the advise fishwhacker, I set up a appointment for monday wish me luck & tyvm...keep me in your sights will post again then hagd ksmcraft13
As past history will show, Toolate2 has always been a positive information source on Vintage and Antique pocketwatches. In his postings he has several, what I'd call "Top Quality" pocket watches and has always told a straight desciption to the people he comments on. I know nadda about Fishwhacker and will not begudle his statements. Enough rambling, Lovely watch, will be looking forward to your finding and thanks for sharing this timepiece.
Jason, with all due respect I don't need a grown man trying to evaluate an internet conflict. You can't even see what occurred that upset me. I had asked one gentleman if one watch was possibly for sale, I had no idea of the rules and corrected myself upon learning them so please don't pass judgement. I was pissed that toolate went on to have my useful comments deleted and made me look like a bad guy following a simple mistake. Let it die, it was no big deal and the person with questions has had them answered.
Ty for the corection on my spelling of "waltham" The watch itself is very hard for me to see #1 I have very poor eyesite not kidding.
#2 the spelling is so small I tought it was a "I" in the spelling my mistake.
Note to self: get new glasses..lol!!!!

Looking forward to seeing a photo of the movement. Nice looking watch and yes, they made a variety of ladies pocket and pendent watches that were in the smaller sizes, 10, 8, 6, 4, 1, 0, 0/3 & 0/6.
