Well, I just picked up this cabinet with it's accompanying machine but I have no idea how to get the knee bar attached once the machine is settled in the cut-out. Any hints from people who own one of these?
You have a lovely 128 with La Vencedora pattern. I've never seen a table like that, but I love it. Will the knee bar fit in the hole at the front, from underneath the table, when the machine bed is fitted level with the table top? I hope that others who have had questions about knee bars recently, will take a look at yours, to see how different they can be, and can see what I mean when I tell people you have to know what sort you're looking for :) If you need a manual for the machine there would be a free one at Singer.co website. If you'd like the date please post your serial number.
The hole at the front in the pics is for the drawer key. The only way to get the bar in the rheostat hole is to maneuver it in behind the front skirt in a space that is about 3" wide...this shape bar does not go in that small space. I wonder if the table was designed for a foot controlled machine? But ISMACS has an original drawing of one with a knee bar sticking out from behind the skirt :-P
The machine & table came with an original instruction booklet for the machine and it's motor but no instructions for the table itself...*sigh*
So you can't get the knee bar into the hole (on the machine base front) from underneath the table? What a pity. That makes me wonder if the machine is original to the table. Have a look at this one

I think in the eBay pic the knee bar for the 99 is laying across the front of the machine in the main photo - looks to have a much straighter type of bar? As I said I haven't seen one of these tables, so I'm only guessing :)
Yes, I was thinking one of those straight bars would fit. Maybe this is why this table was produced for only a short time? When Singer switched from the straight bar to the question mark shaped bar, the table became less functional?
It's interesting - the straight kneebar wouldn't have worked very well with a table top portable, which needs the ? shape to tuck under the table edge in a position that can be used comfortably when you sit at the machine. A machine with a table would have been a higher cost, so they might have phased them out in favour of the ? bar and portable machine. All that social and economic stuff is interesting in the pattern of sales of sewing machines over time, and in different countries. :)

Yes, that is the ISMACS picture of the table, but what type of knee bar is depicted? I know it is an artistic rendition so it may not be accurate but it does not look like the straight type or the ? type.
What is the chance the table came with a different, specially designed bar?
Its hard to say about the artwork, in the Ismacs picture it looks like they're using the '?' shape knee bar I commonly see, which is different to yours above (that looks more like a slashhook), and different to the straight one. The one I'm thinking of wouldn't fit the connection to your machine, which needs a male/female hook up? If you could find a 99 with a regular bar that might work?
Your 128 should work fine as a table top machine, with the kneebar you have?
