The "Colored Bacon" comment was from my 10 year-old daughter when she first saw it. I think her description was fairly accurate. The strips are curled under, horizontal raised texture and misshaped, they do look a little like colored bacon.
The metal housing and electric work look somewhat old, my uneducated guess is 60s or 70s.
The glass strips are about 1/4 thick, 21& 1/2" wide by 5 & 1/4" tall. They are held in place by brass button screws to the metal housing that has been painted :o( leaving no identifying marks.
The rubber washers seen around the button screws were purchased and placed there by me, as the glass was chipping from metal on glass on metal.
I purchased it today for a few bucks in a fairly wealthy part of Western Michigan, along Lake Michigan. I had a very good feeling about this piece the moment I laid eyes on it, and have been looking for anything remotely like it for hours. Any ideas, information, help with investigating would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for looking!

Murano glass? Sorry just don't know. Primary colors. Can you overlap colors?
    5. toolmom toolmom, 12 years ago
@AmberRose, Yes the colors do overlap. I'm not sure if they're in the correct order, but the way I set them up seemed to fit. There seems to be a reason for the size, shape and colors, I just can't figure it out. The yellow color has a very faint hue of purple on the outer edges and the piece is bigger than the blue and red. The glass has a texture to it on the front surface and semi-smooth on the back. Where the glass bends on the ends, there are definite lines and these are more prominent on the red piece. I'm now wondering if there's a way to take only one layer of paint off at a time, in hopes to reveal a signature or mark of any kind, but that is just one more question to the many I already have.

I meant to say, "remove paint from the metal housing" not the glass... there's no paint on the glass.

So, I broke down and paid $10 for an appraisal from "Valuemystuff.com." I'm not sure how reputable this site is, but it was worth the $10 if it gets me closer to figuring out anything about the artist behind this very cool piece.
      Here's what they said,
"Description:A Higgins glass style polychrome wall light,
      Your item's measurements:
Height: 14.75 inches, Width / Diameter: 22.25 inches Depth: 4 inches
      Item Date: circa 1965
      Valued: $600 - $800
      Our expert's additional comments:
This is inspired by Higgins Glass, which was in turn inspired by murano glass from the 1950s."
I'm just using this as more information, not necessarily as a "Mystery Solved." They quoted "inspired by Higgins Glass" because I have no signature or hallmark, so I emailed Higgins a few questions, but I was pleased to at least find this much out about my light.
