To complete my "French Collection" series, here is the "Creme de la Creme". This Emile Galle lamp is special for a couple of reasons. One, because it is very Grande (32" tall) and two because IT STILL HAS A SHADE! I have searched thousands of auctions (not an exageration) and have found very FEW Galle lamps with shades, and none this large. I have found dozens, if not hundreds WITHOUT shades. Why? Because they are glass!
This one in fact (the shade) is a survivor of the first rate. It is damaged, sadly, but what a story! This shade has been cut down, probably due to a large chip in the rim, AND it has a crescent-shaped scar that has been repaired with - well, I'm not sure. This shade was dropped, or fell out when one of the welds/arms gave way, and DIDN'T SHATTER! This has happened, undoubtedly, to so many other Galle lamps that this lamp/shade is one of the very few survivors; battle scars and all. Viva la Galle!
Wow wow wow!!!
Thanks for the love, Amber & BELLIN68. I thought it was pretty WOW too. :)
I don't think I have ever seen anything so beautiful!...:-)
What a treasure! Please tell me you don't own huge puppies, have huge parties, or if you do that you will put this awsome treasure away safely. ;o) Enjoy!
