Circa 1956-1962: Some of the 'Rainbow Star' earrings are marked EMJ a mark which they stopped using in 1955, however the crystals are aurora borealis which were first released in 1956. eBay seller who sold Emmons from 1956 to 1958 said this series was her best seller, also mentioned in a 1962 Emmons pamphlet as suitable for a grandmother! The brooch is a book piece in 'Fifty Years of Collectible Fashion Jewelry' by Lillian Baker.
The clipback earrings can be found in two sizes in both goldtone and silvertone, the brooches are goldtone only, are marked Emmons with the copyright symbol or are unsigned. Emmons was the higher quality sister company to Sarah Coventry.
Less often coloured rhinestone versions of this series can be found in both goldtone and silvertone. These are never signed and the earrings have screw backs so I guess Emmons bought in the findings. Despite being large both the brooch and earrings are really flattering to wear due to the delicate prongs, and the brooches make lovely pendants.
I own and run the largest Facebook group related to Sarah Coventry and Emmons jewelry (sister companies) and can identify the earrings with center pearl is RAINBOW STAR from 1956.
