My mom (1925-2007) had a huge doll collection she started as a young girl. Some of the dolls predate her as they were gifts by aunts and grandmas. Other dolls she got new as time went on. This is one of the strangest in her collection (I know, some will think she is just a dear, but alas :) She has a composition head, HEAVY makeup, and a cloth body. I think her hands may be porcelain, but could be comp also. She is 36" tall. There are no marks to help identify her. I have not been able to find anything about her and have not found another like her anywhere (I'm still new at this since I inherited my mother's collection). Any insight will help toward my ever increasing knowledge bank regarding dolls. Right now it's pretty void! Thanks.
This is what is called a boudoir doll. They were used to dress up a ladies bed and usually dressed very elaborate or in Deco look . They are collectible in this beautiful condition . Usually composition has cracked as these were not always made of best material. Yours is stunning . She would have had a Hat on and a long dress . They date from 1920's into 40's . They were tall and long legged and yours is one of the tallest at 36 " . Did you find any clothes that might fit her ? That would help her value . I love her !
There are more sought after bed dolls as the quality and painting , the era , clothes and one that has hole for smoking and a cigarette are just a few of the types . Some have cloth faces . made by Lenci are very sought after . So there is so much about these Deco girls that buyers look at :-) all affect the desirability of anyone of them .
here is just a random example of one

Thank you SO much. It sounds like this doll is a fashion model in the making. That is just like my mom. There is a bag of doll clothes that I have not gone through that probably includes some for this doll. They are all hand made and designed by my mother as a young girl. She ended up being a designer in her adult life - lots of wedding gowns. I'll dig around and see if I can find some. If I do, I'll post some examples. Thanks, again!
Your Welcome and I hope you find something that fits her . How wonderful your Mom was a fashion designer :-) I always made doll clothes as a child and later in life made and created clothes for antique dolls for a museum . I would love to see the clothes your Mom made :-)
Out of the HUNDREDS of pieces of doll clothing in my mothers collection, I couldn't find anything that fits this doll :( I'm sure she had her dressed up quite well at one time.
You can find clothes for her ocassionally on ebay or the like . Or maybe you could sew her one :-) I am not sure if she has original body or it has been replaced years ago . I wish I could pick her up :-) Also their hair tended to a poor quality and often just pieces of mohair just glued to head . Her hair maybe replaced . I an not sure what tha white material is showing and the stitch but in making a wig that is how a doll repair persom would make it . I bet if you tried you could find something in hundreds of dolls cothes that sorta fits her ? She is to lovely not to be sitting on a bed :-) and not naked lol
oops typo's that should be person would make
