I recently came upon some charming chairs at a local shop and quickly brought them home to join my oak dining table. The bent wood architecture is fascinating; and very sturdy. The caining is in very nice condition and strong. The chairs appear to be made of oak; nice patina of golden brown. I am experiencing difficulty dating these lovely chairs because the Heywood-Wakefield info that I find is for the modern pieces in light woods. There are two labels on each of the four chairs; one label reads "Heywood-Wakefield Co", and the other "Heywood-Wakefield Co. 737 Howard Street, San Francisco, CA". Thank you for your assistance on dating these chairs. I am fascinated by them and crave to know more.
Thank you mustangtony for your info. Now we know that the chairs were not made before 1921.
I have found a repro of a 1929 catalog of Heywood-Wakefield furniture; this is a Schiffer Book for Collectors titled "Antique Wicker-From the Heywood Wakefield Catalog 1929". Amazing book. Found my chairs on page 117. Model number is
C-453-A. From this info I am attributing the chairs to 1929 manufacture. Thanks to this great web site. I hope that this information is helpful to others.
