Need some help from my collector friends. I purchased these 2 teak cans/walking sticks earlier today. Some age to them as the older gentleman told me he purchased them in the Phillipines when he was in the Navy. They look like walking sticks and are beautifully carved, but pull open to reveal a long sharp blade about 11" long. Some marks on the blade. What are they called and were they just something made for the tourists? Thanks for any information.
Cane-swords are the most commonly known but of course there are cane-knives. They were not uncommon into the early 20th century & the 1's I have seen have been very well made but not so much to draw attention to the cane. A button-spring has been the most common release from my observations but it seems I've seen 1's that used a 1/4 turn.
Of course one cannot tell by pics., but my guess the decoration is Indian repro.. That is just going by the pics & remember that.
