I'll agree with the Berries, but I don't think strawberries. Lovely piece and thanks for sharing. Love "Silver" things.
Hi, all! Great photos, filmnet!!
For those who missed the two earlier Show and Tell entries on this item, follows below a link to the one that was posted five days ago. That associated thread discusses this item in great detail.
This gorgeous Aesthetic Movement ladle was designed by Knowles & Ladd in/circa 1870. It is marked "COIN" (to designate coin silver) and “A. SKINNNER” (the Jeweler’s/Retailer’s mark). It bears no maker’s mark, but this was not unusual in K & L items of this period. The unexpected name of this pattern is “Queen”, and, yes, those are strawberries. I read today an article on K & L silver, and the author described the pattern name that K&L had assigned to this proprietary pattern as “bizarre”.
Work is still needed on the cases. Could one of you gentlemen who knows antique fasteners and other such hardware please inspect the box and hardware and indicate whether you think that this beautiful ladle and box belong to one another? Thank you!
We were also unable to determine the exact function that this ladle was designed for. I tentatively submit that perhaps it is a gravy or sauce ladle Notice its size. I think that it is too small to be a punch ladle.
