Can anyone gives any information on this chest? When, were, and value? My husband has had it a very long time, and doesn't even remember how he acquired it! It would be so nice to know a little about its history! Thank you very much!!

Your trunk is a very nice leather covered, barrel stave trunk from around 1875. Without a makers label there is no way to tell who made it. Great interior, great trunk.

Very nice trunk, and yes probably from about 1875 to about 1885 based on the hardware and style. The interior is nicer than many trunks with the extra Victorian trim, chromolithographs, etc. A couple points of trivia.. the center compartment with the small leather tab was the hat compartment and originally had a hat holding piece that slid into the leather holder. They are lost on most trunks but I've found a couple of them complete. The long compartment in back was the parasol case. Most trunks did not have the separate small drawers that yours has. The lock is brass and the other metal hardware on the outside was tinned which made it look silver. Very nice. Marvin, ThisOldTrunk.com
