I am trying to ID these Clip=on earrings from my mother's estate. They are likely from the 1930-40's, maybe 50's? They say Trifari on back and have a crown image. There is also some other symbol on the back. They are gold on the back. They look like carved bone rt ivory and are shaped like a fish. My mom had lots of jewelry from Japan so maybe? I cannot locate an image like them at all. Help??
Trifari is a well known American company. Compare the marks on yours with the makers marks on the Illusion Jewels website to get a decade. If there is a copyright mark (c in a circle) they will be post 1955. Also get a jewellers loupe or magnifying glass and look for a patent number on the clips. An identical pair is on trifari.com and it indicates these may be a book piece but the hyperlink does not work for me.
Well, being that this item was posted 8 years ago, I doubt molnarc will read this but I’m compelled to share what I think will solve the mystery of your Trifari earrings (if she hasn’t already)
I had just solved a mystery of my own on Etsy, searching for (believe it or not) a Trifari bracelet of my mother’s! It’s a chunky, exotic piece with ivory colored carved Japanese figures connected with rich 18k gold colored links and she was wondering what it might be worth these days. It’s been 2 years and tonight I found the bracelet on Etsy with the name Diane Love listed as the renowned designer for Trifari in the 60’s (selling for $450!) . Pleased as punch, I continued poking around and stumbled on your earrings which before reading anything I thought, “those must be the matching earrings!” While I know nothing about anything, I’d bet ‘cha a Trifari bracelet your earrings were designed by Diane Love as well. I also came upon a necklace with a carved ivory pendant that is undoubtedly part of the same collection...I don’t know where one can research the names of Trifari’s designers and I don’t believe their names ever appear on the pieces- only Trifari and it’s incarnations. But I haven’t really tries. There must be an obsessed collector who has compiled all of that info somewhere or possibly a book! I hope you get this and I hope it helps,
