For Nobyug - Here is my cupboard for you to compare yours to! My lion heads no longer have a ring through their mouths. The top border looks very similar and just below that on the corners is a carved top half of a man with a headdress on. Although my panels are different I do think that they could possibly be from the same place. I have been told that it is Continental and almost certainly Flemish.

Thanks for the comment. The design on the top of your cabinet is very similar to mine. I have posted a photo of the lion head holding a ring. We have removed the lower rings on ours until they become less interesting to grandchildren. The Flemish origin may help. I will look at stories from there.

I have changed the photo of the lion head to include the chap below it. The pointy decoration behind the head is certainly very similar. I had not thought of it as a hat, rather the back of a chair. You may be right though. I will let you know if I make progress with identifying the story behind the panels.

It's beautiful. What I like best is the way the angles of the wood sends the light in different directions. Love it!

Thank you so much jimborasco, I sit at my table very often whilst eating and just look at it, I too love it very much. When I first saw it for sale I could only think "Where can I put it"? I loved it from first sight, had to do a lot of moving of furniture to get it in, but it is here to stay now!! Thanks again!

That seems to be the nagging question...."Where can i put it"? So glad you found a place, because this piece deserves a special location. You seem to have found that place. Thanks for sharing this with everyone. Everytime we happen on a piece, my question is "If this piece could talk, what story would it tell"? I love the history of things.

Jimborasco, Who ever owned this beauty before me had installed a light inside (presumably some sort of drinks cupboard) I ripped it out the minute I had it home.
Luckily they had gone through the top of it and not caused much damage. You just can't modernise lovely pieces like this, it just didn't sit with me, the light had to go!!! LOL!! Thanks again Jim for your interest!

Thank you so much for your very pleasing comment on my cupboard! I sometimes sit having breakfast and admire this beauty, so glad I brought it home! It would be hard to find another that I don't have to stand on a chair to access the contents!!!! Lol!:) Thanks again!
