I am stumped on this one. I picked this up at an estate sale because I liked it. Evn the guy that sold it to me asked "what is it." I replied"don't know". He said " it's whatever you want it to be", I agreed and figured it would make a good paper weight, as it is HEAVY. My husband thinks its some kind of mold/stamp that was used to make some kind of decorative copper doohickey ? Anyone have any information on such a thing? I did search the "oracle" but it's too broad of subject to narrow it down. I'd appreciate any information anyone has. Thanks
The pics have me confused & I know a little about molds & casting. One side appears hollow with a sprue(pouring hole) & the other half looks like it would fill-in the sprue channel so that there is no way to pour anything into it? I'm wondering if you have an "open" mold & then something that was cast in it?
The cast iron part(left) fits inside the brass part. The part that you think is a pouring hole is solid, it's like a "key way". That was the term my hubby is using. (Male/female) The brass part is the female part. I think I may have titled it wrong. Because, of course, I don't really know what it is. But our guess maybe is it goes in a hydraulic or mechanical press and might be used to stamp decorative pattern into copper sheet metal???? It's got a very cool pattern, exactly the same on both parts, I think they key way makes sure it's exactly held in place. So, we don't know, we are only guessing.
Love it when you talk dirty to me. Now I see, it's a stamp & not a mold or exactly the same thing,- only entirely different. It's a considible when I was thing that it was an identifit. LOL
Meant"thinking". I'm beginning to forget how to write in English! maybe I need to get away from these "frogs" & "dike-hoppers" for awhile.
