I bought property in Jamaica in '73, just as the communist took control under Michael Manley. With the chaos that ensued, as a foreigner, you had to be stupid if you couldn't make big money as everybody who had anything was fleeing. Most don't know the country was communist during this 8 yr. period as the soviets wouldn't put money in there since they already had Cuba to the north. In the early to mid '70's, the Jamaican dollar was officially rated higher than the U.S. $ at $1.26 U.s. for a Jamaican $. The exodus of wealth started & now the Ja $ is 85 to 1 U.S. $. As a Jamaican said to me in those days, "Mon doesn't run from good". Fortunes were made moving money out, & I did.
The 50 cent bill is certainly rare now. We carried rolls of them in our pockets as a beer was only 50c in the early days.
My account of those 15 yrs is just way too long to convey here. Jason, I'm mailing these to you so I can diminish my collection stuff & add it to your collection of "stuff".

Afternoon there blunder, haven't heard much out of you lately. Just dropping a line to say howdy. The "Field Piece" you've posted is Supurb, You get the Big Boy Toy Award. Hands-down. ;-)

Thanks kerry for your words of encouragement. It was a hell of a job but must give credit to all those that helped & it was a project we all enjoyed with a passion.
I have slowed down because clicking LOVE IT/LIKE IT on everything I like just slows down following CW.

Well it's still good to see and hear some of the words of wisdom you seem to share on some of the postings. I'll keep a watchful eye open for of those in the future. Have a great day.

I've never been accused of passing words of wisdom but so far as a good day, that means not waking up as a frog. Sorry, but I have a French business lic. & can't believe what I have to go thru with their prejudices against Americans.

Oh yes , I can believe that about the French. Seems to be a strong disliking towards Americans, but I believe it came from the "I'm Rich and want to treated as such" attitudes from American tourist in France. I don't blame them. I don't care for those types either.

kerry, after living with & around them for 21 yrs., I believe it goes back further than that. The French actually put to cap on winning the Revolutionary War for the Colonist. Cornwallis surrendered because the Fr. fleet under Admiral DeGras blockaded the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay(while Admiral was living in my old house in St. Eustatius). The French won the war & have never been given due credit by the Americans, plus after they sucked up to the Brits again. I've given this a lot of thought & study & think this is the historical reason. There is deffinately a deep anamosity there. Going to bed as I am forgetting how to spell in Eng..

Sorry, didn't name Eng. Admiral. I owned the house that was his headquarters while this went on. Admiral Rodney.
