Hi! I have a small cut glass dish (hairpin dish?) with a lid made from English silver and (faux?) tortoiseshell. I'm trying to figure out the silver mark on the lid. I've gotten as far as knowing it's Henry Matthews, any help in further identifying it much appreciated! It has the following characters stamped on the lid:
[H][M] [unclear][a DRAGON][.V.].
If it's HM and has the dragon - I've concluded Henry Matthews English silver. But I'm basically stuck wondering what the [.V.] stands for (no idea what the smudged 3rd character is). Can anyone help? Thank you!
I bought this in a mixed lot in an auction and had thought it had no value whatsoever but if anyone has any idea as to its value also appreciated. It does have a small chip in the cut glass at the opening, where the lid fits.
