Japanese sculpture? made of plastic? hand painted on wood platform. What is this????

I bought this for couple dollars at the Goodwill, I picked it up and put it down thinking it was cheap plastic (maybe it is!) then I noticed it sat on nice wood platform, then I noticed it was very intricate and I think hand painted, It is small, as it is next to my keys. All the pieces are halves and hooked together it seems, if anyone has information on this please let me know, I am at a loss! AGAIN!!! haha!
