This piece I know very little on, just that it's very dense wood, very well carved, and most likely it's African, but thats a guess. Any info on region/age/wood type etc. would be great.
Thanks

Thank-you Bellin & mustangtony!
I have 2 of these carvings, the only differences are: -They each have different earrings; -The bases on mine are both smooth. Otherwise they are exactly the same.
The only thing I know about mine is my Grandmother purchased them on a trip to Haiti in 1956.
Did you find out anything about the one pictured in your post? I would love any information. Thanks so much
I have one that is sooo similar to this. If I can only remember where it is. My wife said I gave it to a friend? This appears to be of a woman, and mine is a man. I paid $20 for mine in Ochos Rios Jamaica in the 1980's. A highly talented but even more stoned guy carved this on the beach every day for me. He was very proud when he yelled "my friend is done" I remember looking at in and thinking how stoned this guy had to be to have the left eye an inch lower than the right. I was thrilled for $20. It is pure mahogany wood. It was very hot in January in Jamaica, and when I arrived back in NYC it was snowing. The statue actually cracked in 2 places from the extreme climate change, or if anyone knows different reasons, I would listen, I'm no expert. It happened 15 minutes after getting into my car in long term parking, and was exposed to some very cold winter air. I literally gave away carvings that I realized were too much to carry home, but I kept Bob. To this day, local wood carvings in the Island region sell these
Thank you artcollector and JMNY for the info and story!
Cheers!
