Alexander Struck (1902-1990) desgned this originally in 1941.
In German the title is Till Eulenspiegel. The owl and the mirror are two accompanying emblems.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Till_Eulenspiegel
In English he was known as Owlglass.
here he is portrayed as the court jester seated on a stack of books, an owl on his shoulder. It has impressed model number Q228 and impressed 120 and a date code cipher for a year at bottom.
Check here for the date ciphers. I think it might be 1949.

There are coloured versions as well.
Struck did a mask version of Till Eulenspiegel in 1948 which is being re-done at the moment.
"As a model of communication, Till Eulenspiegel is the inherent, unpredictable factor of complication that can throw any communication, whether with oneself or others, into disarray. These irritations, amounting to conflicts, have the potential of effecting mental paradigm changes and increases in the level of consciousness, and in the end, of leading to truth. Although craftsmen are featured as the principal victims of his pranks, neither the nobility nor the pope are exempt from being fooled by him." Wikipedia.

"Till Eulenspiegel - the jester and bitter foe of the rich and powerful, helper of the poor and oppressed. Re was not only a clown but a well read and wise man, which the sculptor Alexander Struck (1902-1990) wanted to illustrate with the pile of books on which Eulenspiegel is sitting. The owl, sitting on his shoulder, symbolises justice and wisdom. This figure came into being during the second world war when prominent Meissen artists, one of whom was the artist A. Struck who worked for the Meissen manufacturers for more than 56 years, escaped into the world of fairy tales and legend to avoid commissions to produce art sympathetic to national socialism." Galery Schloss Weyer

BRAVO, vetraio!!! I am going to print this off and send it to one of my former professors. You have not only elucidated this magnificent piece, captured the motif of the jester qua independent voice of felicitous contradiction and a ‘hero’, but have also captured the fine soul of the artist and the dreadful milieu in which, and against which, he operated. Magnificent report, vetraio. Your vision and range here is astonishing.

Hi miKKo! Most of what is written above is gleaned from the net. I'm a researcher not the author. I'm just editing down some info to help flesh out the objects.

You are modest, sir. Oh, many with an interest in medieval culture would pick up on the rich sense of the jester motif, but you have pulled together the essential elements beautifully, and also provided the context in which the artist struggled. You try to discover and convey the significance of 'facts', historical events, theories, a body of scholarship - you don't merely cite a date or parrot a fact. Yesterday alone you weighed in on three items and transformed the experience for all of us. Yes, you are often drawing upon collective learning and/or others' scholarship, but that it what scholars do. Nowadays, it seems that many have adoped a new standard for what counts as scholarship. The man who can find ample internet sources of material, and do it quickly, is the scholar. Much less emphasis is placed upon comprehension and mastery of the material, and of correct and legitmate abstraction therefrom, and on new syntheses arrived at by discursive reasoning. In my student days, I was taught that the mark of a scholar was not that he knew everything, but that he knew where to find what he needed and he had the intellectual habitus to master the material. I still hold to that standard, and in the past 24 hours, I have seen you achieve this standard with distinction. I saw that kerry10456 commended you for your most worthy contribution on the aviation trophies, and I smiled in satisfaction. Your modesty does you credit, sir, but it doesn't alter my assessment of the quality of your scholarship.

      Thanks again, miKKo.
Those aviation trophies are outstanding objects and need to be noticed.
