I don't know anything about it except that i thought it was great and picked it up at a yard sale this past week. Its wrapped in leather and has an extremely potent scent/smell of the old leather. The bottom is made of metal and is rusty and has a Macy's stamp as shown in one of the collage photos. There is also another paper-like marking on the trunk's inner lid as shown, as well as a paper-like trim along the interior perimeter of the lid also. It seems to be in pretty worn shape, but opens and closes fine and has a great look to it. I am just trying to get some info on it as far as the markings and maybe the time frame this would have been in use and if there are many of them out there. Thanks!!!!

Nice old trunk -- but I do not think it is covered in leather -- looks more like canvas which would be typical for this type of trunk. Made around the turn of the century (1900). There are many of this type out there so it is not rare in that sense -- however you do have a nice example of this type of flat top trunk. Pretty neat to have the Macy's retail sticker on it. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info! Canvas does make more sense now that i am looking at it again. Any idea what the paper images represented?

The lithographs in these types of trunks often had images of pastoral scenes or beautiful women -- soft images just to add a measure of art to bump up the overall sense of value to the trunk -- no real significance to the images other than that.
