This machine is a National VS with top tension.

The name Oriole is what is known as a 'badged name'. Many companies purchased blank machines from companies such as National, to re-sell, and applied their own brand or name.

      thanks bernadette
now i have a starting point
treadle still moves and machine moves nice and smooth
think it would be worth it to restore? as i have no use for it think some one would?

if you're planning on selling I don't think you'd get your money back from extensive restoration as the cabinet isn't a particularly fancy one, and the machine itself is only in fair/good condition - cut your losses :) it's not a rare machine
