I found this little guy at a second hand store in North Carolina, and its unique folky look drew me to it. It also looks very old based on the patina of the paint. It feels heavy like a solid piece of wood would feel, but the bottom of it chipped when I agitated it with my fingernail. I thought that it is either wood that has become almost petrified due to its age or it is some type of plaster. I was hoping someone could tell what the material is by looking at it. It doesn't have any markings on the bottom except for a small sticker which can barely be seen. The sticker on the bottom gives a hint of the age, because it is almost petrified on the bottom of it. It is no longer paper. More like a brittle thin piece of wood. I think it is fun and cool, and if anyone wants to add anything please let me know! Thanks.

The term "Syroco Wood" is used to identify the material, after the company that popularized it in the 1930s. It made of ground wood and a glue type resin, then molded under heat and pressure. The made hundreds of different "knic knacs" like this, including larger pieces that had uses around the home, like wall plaques, note pad holders, bookends, etc.
      Hope this helps.
