This item was my great grandfather's. It was presented to him when he was a principal in Knoxville, TN. It reads inside the case: Presented by Senior Class Knoxville High School June 1 1923. On the back, it has his initials, 'WGS' inscribed. I really like the watch face and numerals - the watch currently doesn't work but I've just inherited it, and being an ex-aircraft mechanic I have to fix it. It was manufactured around 1921, and has a 17 Jewel movement. It's been serviced and will make a great addition to my family collection, especially when If I can get it working.
The serial number reads: 3832497
On a side note, I also inherited my grandfather's retirement pocket watch from when he retired as dean of the admissions office at the University of Tennessee, although this Illinois pocket watch seems like it has a little more history behind it.
