Here is a really old croquet set. I am guessing it is very early 1900's from the the look of the posts and mallets. The mallets have some crackled paint that adds to their look. The balls are wooden and have a very nice look to them. I would love to knew what company made these as I am still searching for that information.
I found these on Esty and paid about $230 for them. I haven't found a set as nice as these for that price. Most of the vintage / antique croquet sets you find in the states just don't have that look. I am guess these came from England, but I could be mistaken.
If your looking to buy the wooden balls for decoration, you shouldn't pay more than $5-10. That way if you ever get bored with them you can sell them for at least the same amount. You can find a croquet set for $50-$100, but plan on spending much more if you want quality.
