wavy top hair china doll . China dolls are generally given their names by hairstyle and the hairstyle dates them also . Your's has a Pat number for Dec 1880 which is correct date for the wavy hairdo then came the low brow China pretty much the end of them made into 1920 "s .Yours was made in Germany and several companies produced these dolls . Always hard to be a name to company when they are unmarked . China dolls went out the market to be replaced by the prettier bisque dolls . I happen to find China's more desirable but others may say different . You don't say how tall she is ? Also the bad news is at one time it appears her neck and shoulder plate had something repaired . China dolls never have paint flake and there is a color change . I suspect her damage was to reattach head to shoulders . She has beautiful facial coloring and a matron look about her not a child face but more a adult . The original cloth body and clothes are part of the value of a china and breaks and repairs decrease value . A unusual large size is sought after also . These later dolls in China history are more common to find than 1840'-1860's . They often were elaborate and are less common to find . Rarity of doll on market plays into her value also . She is a beautiful gift you received. How any of these head heavy or top heavy dolls survived at all is amazing so easy to break. But then little girls only played with them generally on Sundays and were supervised . Very nice I would like to see a better photo of her neck and shoulder plate to see what they did . Thank for coming to CW :-))) love her

thank you for your reply :) shes 21" i dont see anywheres where it was ever broke or repaired there is funny coloration around her neck but it looks to be able to be cleaned off its not glue or a crack.

Thanks for photo . It still appears she has had work done on her shoulder plate . It should be exact same color as white on her face . She is beautiful ! You can clean her face with a little q tip by eyes and nose and mouth and a damp cloth to face . It will not hurt her . However I would not get neck or shoulder plate wet as it appears re painted . She is most likely made by the Hertwig Co.
