I bought this many years ago and have had it w/ me for at least 25 years. i even managed to purchase these giant batteries for it when i was a kid, and they still kind of work. i love the colors on this piece.

I love it, what kind of batteries did it use?
    3. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 12 years ago
thanks mikkochristmas11 and walksoftly. it takes eveready 278 batteries. i purchased some a long time ago and the radio did work w/ them. i threw them out a long time ago to prevent corrosion damage.

Never heard of that size of battery before, you would think they would have picked something common.

Do you think that the battery choice could be a reason why this radio is so uncommon?

      Hi ho2
      did you mean 276?
found this link & shows eveready 276
      http://transistorhistory.50webs.com/emerson.html

Those are big batteries & not cheap $20-$30 new.
I think at that price I would want rechargeables!

i've posted some pics of the interior of the radio. you are right walksoftly, they are 276's and i remember them being very heavy.
