I have this old stove marked "J. Viktorin" and can't find anything on line about it.
It is 64" high and 18" in diameter. The red part is porcelain steel and the rest is cast iron.
Any help would be appreciated.
Wonderful!!!
Thanks,
I would really like to know about when it was made and maybe the value of it.
Hopefully someone will come along soon who can provide some more information. : )
Thanks, I hope someone can shed some light on it.
Thanks for the loves!
AzTom,
What you have is a modified antique Victorian water heater. It was made between 1900 and 1920. Because of the similarity to parlor heaters people re-purpose these water heaters to parlor heaters.
That's interesting. I have seen a few old gas water heaters that looked similar to this, actually had one still in use in rental years ago but never a wood/coal one.
What are you basing this on? There is no place for a copper coil of piping, nor any holes where pipes would have entered the unit. The red part is porcelain enamel so cutting it would chip it up pretty good.
That's a tall one right there! The one I own is about half the size. Cool
Here is a link of a guy converting one.

I have to doubt this was ever a water heater. If it was I would like to meet the guy who modified it and pick his brain on his techniques.
rlwindle, that is an old Gas water heater. This is nothing like that. This one has a brick lined chamber for the fire and the flue coming out at the top back side.
I'm sure this is a stove.
Now I have found the Producer from this stove: http://www.adsandbrands.com/en/sujet/josef-viktorin-wien/josef-viktorin-wien/51829/coffset-0/0/start-1690/end-2012/company-JOSEF%20VIKTORIN,%20WIEN/sortierung1-title/sortierung2-datum/order1-ASC/order2-ASC/showbrand-marke
It is definitely a stove - I used to live in a flat with one exactly like it (different maker, though) dating to ca. 1905. There must be a hole in the back for the pipe (or at least there must have been one at some point when it was still in use).
I love it, is adorable!
Thanks, Yes the vent is in the top back.
