I purchased this at a local junk shop and was intrigued by the glass and handpainting. I have no idea what it is though. It was suggested to me that it might be a base for a Kerosene Lamp, but know absolutely NOTHING about kerosene lamps. Any help to confirm this and/or possible age, maker, etc. would be greatly appreciated. It's hand painted floral motif with raised enamel dots over the painting. It is approximately 9 inches tall by 8 inches wide. The metal insert has holes in the bottom, the glass is open at the bottom also, so that rules out some sort of vase. Thanks for your help.
It is indeed a base for a kerosene lamp. a brass well would have fit into the metal plated area. Hard to say for sure who made it but the style of decoration looks like it could either be bohemian (like tischer or harrach) or mt washington or smith brothers. I'd lean towards mount washington or smith brothers.
Thank you so much!
