I found this guy a few days ago, and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what kind of dog it is, and possibly who made it and when? He's kind of chipped up, but charmingly so, and there are no marks anywhere to indicate a maker. I looked very carefully from end to end. I might guess 1930s-40s based on style. I left my hand in there for scale.

There's no hole in the bottom, but it is hollow inside. And it is ceramic (not plaster) and has a fired glaze on it (rather than paint).

Yellow is one of my favorite colors to find old ceramics in. (I also have a really great yellow wiener dog dish I don't know much about either! Maybe it was for olives, or hot dogs!) Thanks in advance!

It looks like a plaster type figure made as you say in the 40'0r 50's and given away as prizes at a show or fair. I have one here somewhere I got in the 50's. I'll find it and post a pic of it later.

That would be a good solution, except this dog is ceramic and has a fired glaze on it. It IS hollow though, even though there's no hole on the bottom to see up inside. The way the glaze hasn't held up makes me think the glaze-clay body was a poor match, and it may have been cheaply made. I like the idea that it was a fair or circus giveaway though.

I thought mine was plaster but after finding it it is some sort of glazed ceramic, it has a hole about 1/2 in" in diameter in the base, but it is imposable to see inside it,it has a few yrs worth of dust on it, from memory I think there were other types available (couldn't have siblings fighting over em now could we)
