I found this trunk on the second floor of an old house at an estate sale this weekend. They were only asking $25 for it. I offered $20 and they accepted. The outside is covered in canvas that is in good shape. It has one small area in the back on the bottom that is just a tiny bit loose. There's a very small amount of rust in a few places on the outside. Overall, this trunk is in really good shape. It didn't have the tray, but the for that price, that's ok. It appears to be totally flat but at closer inspection, you can see that it has just the slightest hump in the middle of the top. When I opened it and looked in the lid, I could also see that it had a very slight hump. I don't know how old it is? I don't know anything about it. I couldn't find any manufacturer names and dates on the lock or hinges or any other part of it. It does have a faded name stenciled on the side Jennie Ratcliff of Shelbyville, KY. I bought the trunk in Louisville, KY, which is about 20 minutes from Shelbyville. I thought it was neat that I know who the owner was and that she was from this area.
Hey, moth, are you still working on this one or can we see the result?
Sorry, that should have been myoldkentuckyhome abbreviated . : )
It's in such good shape that I'm not going to do anything to it. I just cleaned it up and it looks pretty good.
