I have been told that these rustic benches sat to rest a weary tobacco leaf picker and the added benefit was posting an ad on its back support.

Who has anymore info. Date, value, rarity?

is that a phone number above rocky mount?

Yes, I think so although it has faded. I tried my best to preserve.

Then it isn't that old. Maybe late 1960s at the latest as that is when phone numbers switched to that format.

The number above the Rocky Mount, NC wording is, DIAL 612-3664. Is that still the 1960's time slot you assume, as it is not the current 10 digit call system.

Up until the late 1960s the telephone numbers were a combination of letters and numbers, "WHI-1212" for example. Area codes were not widespread until a few years later. The bench itself could be old, but that advertisement is only 40-some years old tops. It's a cool looking bench though, I'd put it on my porch if I had it lol
