Can anyone help with this?
This candle holder, in the shape of a Dove or Pigeon, is apx. 3" high x 4" long.
It appears to be carved from a fine crystallized substance, someone braver than me said it tasted like salt.
I have no idea what category to put this under!

I did some looking for alabaster, but didn't find anything quite like this yet, but will keep looking.

Are you sure this was made to hold a candle ? My mom had a pair of these made of alabaster that we had for years but they were not candle holders . I can not tell from the above photos if there is a carved hole between the wings or if someone just put a candle in there .
Yes there is a hole, my mother put a candle in it for Christmas one year.
Did the ones your mom had have the same texture to them as this one.

I have 3 or 4 of these and they all have a sticker on the bottom that says "made in Italy". Very nice!
