Bought this trunk at a garage sale.. Owner claimed her great aunt bought it at an estate sale of a wealthy woman that died early 60's. trunk looks very old. Possible turn of the century. Can anyone give me some background info. Did I make a wise pick?
Crouch & Fitzgerald were makers of fine quality trunks. This one, although a standard model has the hall marks of quality to it. It has no 4 cast iron latches which are high quality. It also has cast iron corner pieces and slat clamps. Even the stitching on the handles suggest an attention to detail. They usually have nice interiors as well -- although not sown. However they did not make trunks upside down -- so you are showing this one incorrectly. This trunk would have been made in the late 1890's. As far as a flat-top trunk is concerned -- this is a very nice example and a desirable trunk.
Posted the pics upside apologies. Thanks for the info, you were very helpful!
That's okay -- I spelt "shown" wrong so we are all in this imperfect world together -- and you are welcome!
