This is an update to my earlier post "Family Farm"
This is a tinted version of the other picture & measure 16" x 24"
It appears to have water damage even though it has never gotten wet. These photo's were taken on speculation, then the salesman would go farm to farm trying to sell the pictures.
The second image shows the farm as it was in 1987, 5 years after we moved in.
As you can see a few changes were made in the 30 + years.

Thanks for the love, gargoyle.
Oh I love it there !!!!!!!!!! It is beautiful farm past and present !!
Thanks Mani for the double love, we do enjoy it here.
Thanks for the love toolate.
We had a aerial photo of farm but I think my cousin has it in Texas . I will try to see if she is well enough to email me a photo of it as it was framed also . You live in a paradise !
Get on the phone Mani, I want to see that picture.
One of the best parts is the trees that my Grandfather planted, the Spruce trees are 70 years old now.
The only way I'm leaving here is horizontal ;-)
What happened to the big barn?
The big barn had a bad foundation/stone wall, it was built in the 20's & by 1942 a portion of the front wall had been replaced with wood. Also it was built into the side of the hill & the pressure of the ground freezing, rain etc. caused the back wall to give out.
A combination of bad mortar poor engineering did it in.
When people say "they don't build them like they use to", I say it's a damn good thing they don't!
We started taking it down in 1985, I didn't want a pile of rubble in the yard, so we dismantled it board by board.
Too bad those are dissapearing more and more.
One of ours(150 years old) had 48' of the back roof (which was all new installed by amish)blew off in 2007 (70 mph 400+feet away)
My dad and I replaced it and all of the stringers, and last july 15' of the front blew off (91mph 300+/-feet away)all was amish work ,but my work held!I'm getting tired of climbing around on that old thing, but I love it and it's still in great shape
I've been taking picture of some of the few barns remaining in the neighborhood,
most people can't afford to keep them up.
Too bad so much has happened to yours, nice you were able to fix it though.
You should post some pics, I would love to see it.
I will have to do that, mayby after the roof is done, hey she's still strong! And doesn't look too shabby either.I would love to see your buildings!
Thanks for the love & the comment Bellin.
Thanks for the love, ttomtucker, kerry & bratjdd.
Hi Phil, yes it was sad to have to tear the barn down, but I couldn't stand the thought of it all ending up in a big heap & left to rot away.
We sit 1/4 mile off the road, don't have to put up with road dust.
If you could pan right in the second photo you would be able to see where I grew up.
Thanks for the love & the comment.
There have been lot's of changes since the second photo, we ran a fairly large herd of cattle for a while & all the pens are still there.
All the old wood buildings are gone & we built a large heated shop & office.
I want that wind mill back so bad. It was purchased my GF in 1939/40 & they brought it with them when they moved to this location my father sold it in the 80's for fifty dollars.
Two years ago I found a note of my father's with the name & location of the man that bought it. I contacted him hoping that I might be able to buy it back, turns out he's still using it to water livestock.
Wonderful!
Thank you for the love & the comment miKKo.
Thanks for the love, nsvmom.
Thanks for the love, Longings & petey, nice of you to stop by the farm.
Hello, my friend...in my haste, I had forgotten to wish you the best on Boxing Day, which was yesterday. I'm sorry about that, and I hope that it was a good day for you, your family and friends.
And I hope that you will have a very Happy New Year!
Thanks Ted, it was a good day & thanks for stopping by & expressing such kind words.
I hope your day was equally good.
Be well my friend!
Happy New Year!
Very nice! My parents have one of these pictures/paintings as well. Their's was takien in the late 60s when the barn was still there. Unfortunately, it had to be torn down in the 70s because it was starting to get unsafe. It was a huge barn that my great grandparents built. My mom said that there was a knock on the door one day and there was this salesman with these aerial pictures, all black and white. After deciding that she wanted one because it showed the original farm, the salesman asked what color everything in the picture was, and as my mom told him, he wrote directly on the picture. She ordered the 8 x 12 painting of it. A long time went by, and she started wondering if she had gotten ripped off, but then the painting showed up in the mail. I looked at this picture when I was home this past Thanksgiving, and the colors are very accurate. The sticker from the company was still on the back, so I copied the information down. When I got home, I started researching it and was surprised to find the company is still in business. I contacted them to find out how much just a black and white photo would cost. Was told it would be $79 if the negative was still good. They said most of the negatives from the 40s and 50s have disintegrated. The guy I talked to said there were lots of companies that did these aerial photographs back then, but they were the only ones that kept the negatives, and that's why they're still in business. He said at one time, Microsoft offered the owner of the company $5 million, but the owner wouldn't sell.
Cool story jonima, did you order a photo?
$79 seems like a good price.
I was just looking at a website for one Canadian Co. that has photo's going back to the 50's & they are asking $125.(dry mount)
Another company has archives going back to the 50's as well, prices from, 9 x 14 - $320, up to 24 x 36 - $855 framed with year plate.
No, I didn't get one. It's a little too much for me right now. I did take a picture of my mom's though when I was up there, so at least I have that.
Many thanks to all who clicked on love for these photo's, namely Don, filmnet, jameyrd, Aimathena & Mani... how did you get back to the top of the list:-)
You are welcome, Dave....
Thanks for the love Vet.
