My husband found this item when cleaning out his father's basement. The family never had a piano and he doesn't know where it came from.
There is a metal attachment piece on the bottom of the seat that's marked New York Piano Stool and Mfg. Co. The seat is very heavy and is about 14" in diameter. In the photo, the stool stands about 18".
Would like to know if anyone can provide an estimated age of this piece and if the base is original to the top.
Thanks.
I am refinishing one of my church's piano stools. It looks like your is regards to the base piece/legs and the center piece that held the height adjuster. My adjuster is marked Cook Quality vs. your New York Piano and Mfg Co. In addition, mine only has one ring on the side of the seat vs. yours which has four rings. I would think it all was one piece and not a married item. Let me know if you find out more about your stool.
Maybe the height adjuster on mine was made by Cook and yours by NY Piano Mfg. Co. My screw adjuster is a single size and does not have the extra screw as yours does at the base of the seat. Could that extra piece be what the seat screw bar is supposed to turn into and is supposed to be down in the lower seat/square thing that hangs below the seat base. Mine has a metal device inside that square thing down inside the lower base center section. Maybe yours came out?
