Very thin and light as a feather, in Loetz' "carneol" decor. When I found this, I figured it was either Loetz or Harrach, but because it has extensive gold enamel applied, if it was Harrach I would expect it to have markings on the bottom, which this does not. The cup has a highly polished pontil mark. The saucer has a cut and ground rim (no pontil), over which gold enamel was applied. The cup measures 2.5 inches across the rim, and the saucer is just under 4 inches across.

a lot of Harrach was not marked. I wouldn't knock that company out of the running based on no marks. (I do think it's likely Loetz though) I am not sure it's possible to tell Harrach from Loetz in Carneol marmorietes. I made a conscience effort to pay attention when we were in the czech republic and germany as to the differences. Passau was the only place that you could see a marked difference between them (and because of that I highly suspect some of their marmorietes collection is actually Harrach) According to passau Harrach was a heavy crude version compared to the delicate examples chosen for Loetz, but at harrach proper the red pieces were just like loetz. doh! I hit send by mistake! continued... Even the decors were identical in some cases. I kind of think they might have been filling consignments to the same place which might mean identical pieces from the two different houses (but that is speculation) It's also possible some of the marmorietes at Harrach might have been samples from Loetz. my endeavor to try and tell the difference left me basically just as unsure as when I started. LOL

The saucer has a very thin layer of white glass on the bottom, as with the inside of the cup. It didn't show up in the photos, but you can see it well enough in person.
