I bought this at an antique shop a number of years ago and I never was able to find any information about it. I bought it because I liked the look of it. I'd really like to know what it is if anyone has ever seen another one like it.

Very ornate, and I love the red upholstery. The antique chairs I have are sit lower than today, but sorry I cannot help you determine the age. Beautiful !

I bought it to use as a prop in my photography studio. It worked very well with small children.

You're right to say it's Victorian; this is a classic example of the period. It's probably made of walnut; chairs in this style usually are. Adult chairs are fairly common, I've only seen one or two child-sized chairs, but they're certainly not unheard-of.

My daughter who is a history person said they made chairs lower back then because people were shorter.

This chair sit very low (8" from the floor to the seat), the back is only 21 1/2" high and the smallest space between the arms is 10". There are no visible manufacturer marks that I can find and while the carved portions of this chair are very ornate, there are some parts underneath that do not show and appear to be less finished than the rest.

Are you sure its not a sales man sampler The one I have was used as a cats bed

It seems to me that if it was a salesman's sample, the manufacturer would have made some indication of the origin or the model or some form of identification on the piece itself. Nowhere on my chair can I find any markings. It seems unusual that someone who took the time to carve such a beautiful piece would not take the time to put their name or any identifing mark on it

Photos of the bottom and back will help to determine the age.
