Superb antique Victorian Vulcanite/Gutta Percha mourning jewelry earrings and necklace!
Gutta Percha is derived from tropical trees indigenous to Southeast Asia. The sap from the trees formed a latex which allowed the Victorians to create jewelry, furniture as well as dentistry. Blocks of gray, black and brown were used by the artists to create the pieces. All together very nice mourning jewelry in Victorian time and nowadays still quite modern in their form.
The necklace has different seizes oval links all connected forming a wonderful antique necklace. Dating to the Civil War era, the necklace is applicable in today's fashion just as it was back 150 years ago. The round earrings (very light in weight) perfectly matching the necklace and 3.5 cm (1.4”) total length. The two lockets, one with yet beads and the other with gold decoration I have show earlier on this site.
Could you help me to find a more precizer date of the earrings?
I love it!!!
Thanks for loving Carlomar.

Thanks again for loving vetraio50
Thanks again Carlomar.
I think the earrings are very close to the necklace in date but there is a chance they have been re-worked, the ear wires and the connectors may have been replaced.
Thanks for your helpful comment davyd286. Indeed this could be the case but here I don't thanks the earrings have been reworked. On a close look the seem to be original.
This set is amazing - and it does have a contemporary Madonna / Gaultier vibe. Thanks as usual for posting Agram.m!
