I wish I had more info to share, but I don't know much. My grandmother had an apartment building 25 years ago and this was left behind. It was in poor condition with rust and black paint covering it. It sat in my fathers office for the last 20 years until I asked for it. I have been nipping away at it for the last 5 years, and I finally got around to the full restore. Originally, it was covered in leather between the metal portions, however the leather was beyond repair. It is a C.A. Taylor Trunk, but that is the extent of my knowledge. I would love some more information on the trunk or the woman on the lid.
Thanks
It says Craftsman & they are still in business but I prefer MAC or SnapOn.
That old trunk looks pretty good too. You really have a top of the line trunk & I'm sure T-man will be along soon to help.
Wow -- what a fantastic trunk. This is a top of the line high quality trunk. It is a bevel top trunk as well which is a rare style of trunk. C.A. Taylor was a premier trunk maker -- and you can see why with this beauty. The hardware is all cast iron with beautiful designed hinges and fingering on the sides -- probably all patented by the company as opposed to most companies buying their parts from others . Looks like solid number four latches. (blunderbuss I finally got your humor when I looked at the picture again -- you are sharp today!) As to the lithograph of the woman -- probably just a generic picture, which were typical in their day. The oak slat trunk I have on my site has some similar features. The craftmanship on this is stunning and you will not find a better made trunk -- Louis Vuitton trunks are expensive and sought after trunks but there are not made any better than this one (in my opinion). So congratulations on an outstanding find and thanks for letting us have a look see...

T-man, you must have been on 10 sec. delay earlier. Don't go into bomb disposal!
GREAT piece!
GORGEOUS!! wish my Taylor looked as clean! I'm so afraid of cleaning it too much past wiping gently with a soft shammy... lol
