My grandfather was a Maine State Trooper, a motorcycle patrolman. He passed away back in the 1940s, but left this set of handcuffs and leg irons to my father. I also have a couple of old batons that were his. All 3 sets have the same markings on them, shown in the third photo. The Patent date is 1904. The last photo shows my grandfather with his "steed". I didn't see a Law Enforcement category, so I posted under Tools and Hardware, as I had seen another set posted there.
Knew Dave (pw-collector) would LOVE these!!!
When we had parties at the house I used to hang them on the bedroom doorknob. We got lots of comments about them, lol. Good thing I have the keys too.
LOL, I bet. Maybe Dave will post some of his collection now that these have been posted. BTW.... Love the 4th photo with you grandfather and the MC, Classic!!!!
The handcuffs and leg irons are manufactured by the Mattatuck company in Waterbury, Connecticut. The company manufactured several types of restraints and these are called "The Judd", patented Aug 2, 1904. I have salvaged three sets of Towers Leg Irons and 1 set of Hiatt leg irons. Can someone direct me to a source of where I can obtain keys for these items? Please contact me at gordok@mts.net with any information on these items. Thanks for your time.
