Just in time for Halloween - more scary BAD photos!

My non-scary Mexican ceramic cat. The black and orange coloration bids me use her at Halloween, but she is a gentle creature. Ho2cultcha has identified the style as 'Tonala'. Thank you very much, ho2cultcha! Follows below a link to the beautiful ceramics of Jalisco.

A Merry Hallows' Eve to thee!

Many thanks, AmberRose, for your kindness!!! Here's a link to those hallmarks. None too clear, but the best I could capture.

Hi, Bellin! Thank you very much!! : ) How are you today? I haven't had a chance to explore the latest treasures on CW - Been pretty busy the last three days. Can't wait to see your latest loot. : D

Your Mexican cat is in what is known as the 'Tonala' style of pottery. it is an ancient technique of slip-glazing and burnishing - pre-colombian. It is still made exactly the same way in Tonala, Jalisco and the cat figure is an iconic image, which continues to be reproduced today.

Bellin! Did you get a 'parking ticket' for chatting on CW? Is that what you meant? Or was it a commendation? You deserve a commendation! I'll confer one solemly now. Ta - da! Now, for a motto. How about this? "Without Courtesy and Art we are but Featherless Bidpeds with Car Keys" -- an alteration of the Tery Fugate-Wilcox gallery motto: "Without Art we are but Monkeys with Car Keys". Please pardon the substitution of featherless bipeds for monkeys. I have too high an opinion of monkeys to make fun of them. Hope your Sunday is splendid, sir, and that you are issued no further citations for parking violations. Best regards, miKKo

Any hidden designs in the cat itself...in the pattern? It is my (granted very new to this type collection game) understanding that certain artists added in their own flare.

Thank you very much, birdie and Manikin!! : )

Good to see you. Hope your day is splendid! Manikin, is Gumby staying out of trouble?

Thank you, AmberRose, for the information and question!!! I don't see any in this cat. I'm afraid that you know much for about this style than do I. I will look for that characteristic when I do some reading on this style. : )

MiKKo, I saw a big frog like this at a thrift today and almost picked it up for you. I still could but wasn't sure if you wanted to collect these? If so, I will try and get him for you.

amberrose - i would be very interested in the frog, if mikkochristmas is not! i love frogs - particularly mexican ones. [must be my french/mexican heritage!]

Thank you very much, AmberRose, for the most kind offer!!! I was going to take you up on that toad and reimburse you; however, I see that ho2cultcha needs a frog, so I retreat in his favor. You and ho2cultcha are delightful and very generous. and I thank you heartily!!! God bless you. : D

Hi! First, I don't have it yet, and won't know if I can snag it until Monday. My car broke down this morning and my whole day turned into chaos! It has all turned out fine, stupid water pump!
If I do snag it, I did offer it to miKKo first...not that I don't love you too ho2cultcha...gosh now I feel bad. And now I am on the super look out for you both!
Let's see what happens Monday...fingers crossed.

Remember the opaline teapot, eye4beauty, when I counseled you not to fret if it went to AmberRose - because she'd just turn around and give it away? : D AR's generosity flows like a river.

AmberRose, you are so good to think of me!!! Thank you!! Ah, water pump!! Sorry to hear that!! Please do take good care of yourself, and don't worry about anything. All will be well. Hope you had a splendid Halloween!! : )

The one offered by someone whose wife wanted to sell the teapot and cups for $30, and how we all went crazy over the pot?

Okay went back and frog has hopped away. I do see these in various forms from time to time. Toucans, cats, owls...small and large. Happy to pick up any desired animal for both of you. They are usually under a buck so it's an easy gift to give....wait that sounded like I am cheap...but you know what I mean
    29. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 12 years ago
no problem amberrose. thanks for thinking of me. i love frogs, but they are all over the place and i get so many of them... so it has to be easy and cheap - like me!
    30. miKKoChristmas11 miKKoChristmas11, 12 years ago
Hi, AmberRose! Thank you so very much for your very kind offer of the frog! Your thoughtfulness is the great gift, and I treasure it. I am celebrating the victory of your kindness while I am seized by the suspense of the election feeds. Please don't worry about hunting down a frog pottery piece for me. I know you! You'd be out there hunting until you found one! Please get some rest tonight - if you can peel yourself away from election results!, and know that I am celebrating your great kindness! Thank you, thank you!!! : )
