This was my grandfather's sidearm during WWII. Obviously, it's had some "bling" from the standard issue. A friend of mine who specializes in WWII antiques said that sometimes clear handgrips would be made from plane canopy glass, so I'm assuming that's what he'd done with this. One side had his girlfriend at the time, and the other was his mother. I think it's the model M1911A1.
Thanks for the love, everyone!
You can't go wrong on the 1911. A frame model that was the benchmark of MILLIONS os semiautos. Always loved this piece.
Great gun! But it's all about the grips, very cool!
Thanks for the overwhelming love on this item! It's definitely a great piece, given its history. I thought the grips were quite awesome, as well, zguy! I didn't realize that special care was made during war time to do that (using the airplane glass) I thought it was an afterthought or a purchase, not an actual home-made type of thing. Makes it even more wonderful!
