This old carousel horse actually belongs to my grandmother. It has a nice story to it.... My grandma always had this fantasy about having a real operating carousel horse in her house (I guess she really liked carousel horses). Anyhow, one Christmas, about fifteen years ago, my mother and father purchased this horse at an antique store somewhere in New Jersey. On Christmas Eve, while she was in another room, we snuck the horse into the back door, set it up and surprised her. This was some task, the horses body weighs close to 200 pounds, the head probably 50-75. End of the story, she was surprised, as she finally had her dream horse (even though it didn't move up and down). She named him General, today it stands in my parents living room.
I am wondering if anyone has any info about finding out 1) if this was actually a horse from a carousel, 2) where it is from, and anything else. The salesman said that it was from a carousel somewhere in Canada. Like I said earlier, it is huge and very very heavy. The head and tail come off (the last picture is the bottom of the head). If anyone has experience with horses like these I would love to hear more. Thanks everyone!
thanks for the love pawis!

Does anyone have knowledge about European Carousel Horses? I am wondering if this is a lead horse or a "stander" or if it is a replication.
