I don't think this is hand painted, in that I can see the dots in the design. The only marking is a stamp on the bottom that says Japan. I love the pattern though, it's quite beautiful! The candle is ready and waiting for tonight, just in case Hurricane Sandy decides to be a hassle!
Anyone familiar with the pattern or maker? (Being as they marked the piece so well ;))
Hi, nsvmom. I will keep your family in my prayers tonight. I was born and raised in South Texas, very close to the Gulf of Mexico, and I have been through a number of hurricanes and tropical storms. They can be frightening, but if you prepared and you follow directions, you should be fine.
Hi miKKo! They are riding out some high winds and a LOT of rain and have been without power since just after she posted these things. We are more inland than she is and south of her. We're getting high winds and SNOW! But all is well. I'm sure she would appreciate your concern. *S*
About this candle holder.. it looks like it's been made from a saucer. I think I can see the ring for the cup in the first picture. What a cute piece!
Hi, chinablue! Thank you for the update. It will be a storm to remember. I pray that her family remains safe, and that their spirits are higher now than the water and winds hurled against them. A good day for recounting tales of endurance handed down in the family! I suppose nsvmom will be without power for a good while....Please take care of yourselves down South!...Yes, this is a charming piece. Dainty and feminine. I love the finely rendered violet pattern. Yes, saw the cup indent - a unique piece. Candleholder will come in handy today....
Oh, btw, I didn't take a picture of it, but when I take the candle holder base off, there's only a sticker that says "Japan" on the bottom of the dish.. no other marks..
