Thanks to a fellow member, I had initially posted this to Native American Pottery, I can put this jug in the Mediterranean region, not North American. If anyone can identify the origin and perhaps age of this beautiful jug, I would be most thankful. I have apparently lived with it for years, not knowing exactly what it is. It is clearly old, and hand crafted. There are no marks at all on bottom, but in the last photo I show a mark of sorts that seems deliberate. It is in the base black glaze. It stands 12" high and 11" wide at the handle. I am looking foward to finding out.
I can tell you that it positively isn't Native American, if that helps. It's a form commonly called a wine jar or wine jug, made throughout the Mediterranean area.
Thank You! Now I have a place to start. I will repost in the general section to see if it jumps out at anyone else- your input is greatly apreciated. I feel a bit silly regarding my misidentification.
