The newly published book "From Neuwelt to the Whole World - 300 Years of Harrach Glass", edited by Jan Mergl, indicates that this is "clearly the most sought-after Harrach decoration of the Art Nouveau period" (among Harrach collectors, I imagine this is subjective), and is available on many forms decorated between 1899 and 1900. Matte iridescent, colorless glass with opal underlay, with large topaz, orange, and pink splashes. Beautiful enameled irises, and shadowy gold decoration (see last photo) all combine to stunning effect. Although this example is not marked, I found a piece that is identical in shape and decoration in an online auction that is marked in gold ink on the bottom.

Great one Warren, your photos are much nicer than the ones I saw in the auction.

yeah, they had terrible photos. Nice piece. the shells weren't apparent at all. I was tempted by this one but I've bought way too much.

actually, I always thought these were shells on mine but I just bought a ginko tree.. They're ginko leaves aren't they?

Wow, I had to look them up, Alisa, but it looks like ginko leaves to me, too. I was equally, but pleasantly, surprised to see them!

your pictures convinced me I needed it. LOL these ARE hard to photograph. I took hundreds of pics trying to capture the two I already own in this pattern, and I never was satisfied with the results.

I got mine yesterday. it's funny how every single one of these seems to be a little different. the Opal underlay on mine is much thicker than my other pieces which are pretty much transparent. (you can only see shadows thru the glass on the one I just got) and the iridescence is almost fuzzy looking; like velvet. the iridescence is similar on one of my pieces but less velvety and on another it has more of a cyprin type iridescence effect; a little crackled looking. The iridescence has made the ginko impressions on this really fuzzy as well. It looks like the surface was too mottled to have a good imprint from however they did the light gold relief. also I noticed your version of this has white enameled while mine is gilded. they're so individual. I think it's great. I do love this line. I can see it being the most sought after of art nouveau harrach if you've seen it in person. they are very hard to photograph. I think I have some ok pics of the iridescence on mine. I'll post later. My photo set ups have been hopelessly corrupted with white cat hair. I need to get new material for backdrops :)
